Objectives:
To learn how to discuss music; to distinguish genres and express personal preferences in music; learn the key vocabulary; learn typical ways of describing one’s preferences in music.
Presentation and class discussion:
Showing video fragments with different genres of music. Students have to name the genres of music – classical, jazz, rock-n-roll, rock, disco, punk, reggae, latino… etc, – (4-6 min)
What musical instruments could you recognize in those videos? (2 mins)
Reading aloud lyrics of a pop-song and then listening to the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zicw_dVwhfM) (7 min)
Pair work (Find somebody who…) (7 min)
Summary and home work: Instruments – genres matching exercise (attribute the musical instruments to the corresponding genre(s) (2 min)
Pair Work (Genres): With your partner, write definitions for five vocabulary words. (7-8 min)
Group Work: Class is divided into two parts. The first group reports on questions 1 and 2. The second group shares their views about questions 3 and 4. (7 min)

2. Can you think of some important issues that have been reflected in a piece of music
3. What music do you like to listen to? Why?
4. Do you think music influences society or reflect things happening in society?
